Bubba Gump Shrimp Co – Perfect for Travelers and Tourists
Ok, this place might not scream London, or even England in fact. This is due to Bubba Gump Shrimp Co being an American resturant. The restaurant is based on the movie Forest Gump, which is full of movie memorabilia. But this place is ideal for people who are not the biggest fans of Forest Gump too. (and if you haven’t seen Forest Gump, Don’t worry as there is a video on repeat so you can watch that while you eat)
Bubba Gump Shrimp Co is defiantly one of London weirdest and wonderful Resturant.
So why do I recommend this place to London Travelers and Tourist?
Address: 13 Coventry St, London W1D 7AB
Cost: High London Prices ( Competitive in the local area)
Type of embellishment: Restaurant and Gift Shop
Why is it great for London Travelers and Tourists
When Arriving in London you can’t help but notice all the cafes/ coffee shops and actually finding a decent restaurant can be a lot harder than you first think. If you do find a good restaurant it is highly likely to be a chained restaurant and there will be another exact copy just around the corner. Saying this Bubba Gump Shrimp Co is a chained Resturant but not found much within the UK.
When you look for a restaurant in London you normally look for Three things,
- Good Food
- Something a little different to home
- Great Drinks
This covers most people unless your American. But if you want some “home” cooked meal to make you feel less homesick, this is perfect too.
Explore London in a different light
This leads me on to my second point, a lot of travelers to London are from Europe so the American Restaurant is still different from home. I support home travel (which is just leaving your house and exploring your own country as a tourist) Being from England, London is the biggest place you explore as a home tourist and the Bubba Gump Food Co was perfect to fill the urge of adventure.
Being inside one of the booths you could be anywhere in the world, but it doesn’t fill like the heart of London.
Amazing place to drink (as well as eat)
Most people visit Bubba Gump Shrimp Co as a quick look around the gift shop at the bottom, laughing at all the life’s like a box of chocolates and My name is Forest Gump, people call me Forest Gump. Then leave.
Others have food too then leave. but the winners are the drinkers.
I’m not going to say its the cheapest place to drink in London as that would be a lie but some of the cocktails are worth a try.
As you can see the Woowoo is pretty standard but the Blue Cornarita is something special. I personally really enjoyed this drink. Highly acholic, sweet and changed flavor as you drank, how much more could you want.
Their range of cocktails is quite vast. Standard Cocktails, Different flavor Cornaritas and The Forest Gump Cocktails.
What is the service like
When greeted to your table a friendly server will come over and explain how ordering works. Personally, I think it is genius (Thinking about from both the server and the customer’s point of view). They explain how the forest runs sign works.
Flipping a sign brings someone to you, not having to ask for your bill by trying awkwardly to get eye contact. This makes the service more relaxed which is great for the atmosphere. Unlike most places when a server keeps coming over you feel rushed to get out, having this you can call for drinks or get the bill at your own pace.
Just a heads up as it is an American restaurant you will find an optional service charge at the bottom of your bill. You can get it taken off.
Time to talk about the food
OK, If you like shrimp you will like this place. As everyone knows you can do a lot with shrimp “You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey’s uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There’s pineapple-shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich…” Forest Gump
At the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co, they don’t disappoint.
I’m not saying they only do Shrimp but not getting shrimp is like going to Mcdonalds for a salad.
I really enjoyed my time there and would visit again. But the drinks were definitely the highlight. I would love to spend a night at the bar there, but I wouldn’t be able to afford that. Taylor thinks it was really nice but it was a bit standard tasting, especially for how unique it was to shrimp. I would agree but this could be possibly just our choice for the food as we were eating on a budget.
I would give the place a 4 out of 5 stars. (That’s a good rating from the Funny Backpacker)
