Abigails Hostel Dublin Review
Thinking of staying in Dublin? Not sure where to stay, should you stay in a hostel or a hotel? Well, I normally recommend a hostel in any traveling situation where possible. So here I am reviewing one of the highest reviewed Hostel in the Heart of Dublin. It’s got some great points and some points that are not so great but these points are all my own opinion.
I was not paid in any way to write this review. (All the opinions are my personal ones and my experiences may be different to yours)
Address: 7-9 Aston Quay, Temple Bar, Dublin, D02 DX56, Ireland
Where to Book: www.hostelworld.com
The Positives and the Negatives
Let’s start with all the positives, Then move on to the negatives. By the end of this article, you should have an idea if you want to stay in Abigail’s hostel in Dublin.
The best thing about Abigal’s Hostel is its location, perfect distance from everything. It’s located right next to the main high street, but not close that you get all the noise. This is the same for the temple bar area, which is located just behind.
The hostel itself is not far from the Ha’ Penny bridge and is a lovely area at night.
I wouldn’t say the floors were so clean you could eat your dinner off them. But the fact it was clean is a big deal for a hostel so I thought I would give it a mention.
I didn’t know this hostel had free breakfast when booking it and I must say it was a pleasant surprise. Not going to big it up much as it was a “hostel Breakfast” but free food is free food.
Tours and Pub Crawls
I am going to write some reviews on the tours itself so stay tuned.
The hostel did have a couple of negatives and they were more in the way of my personal preferences.
The lockers are one of my biggest things when visiting a hostel, As I feel the better the lockers the better the security. These lockers had two issues;
- The fact the was located under the beds. Fine if it’s in the day but early in the morning and late at night when you have to get something you will wake up the person on the bottom bunk trying to get your stuff. (plus image waking up to someone crouched down next to your bed)
- You could see what was in the lockers and the fact there was holes meant you couldn’t put items lose in the lockers.
Heads up: Make sure you have a locker for a hostel locker
Communal areas and The lack of atmosphere
The small communal area doesn’t help the fact there is no atmosphere in the place. This is because no one sits down downstairs so they sit in their rooms and no one talks in their rooms and then… no atmosphere. This is not a problem if you are traveling as a group but not best as a solo traveler.
Toilets and showers
I’m never a fan of shared toilets and showers inside and shared room. This is because it can be noisy, dirty and smelly but these weren’t actually the problems with these toilets. The problem was the size and the fact it was nearly impossible to get changed in the rooms without hitting the walls
Overall Thoughts and ratings
Would I stay here again, Yes. It might have had some negatives but it wouldn’t put me off staying here. I would give the hostel a 3.5 out of 5 and would have probably given it a better review if I wasn’t staying there as a solo traveler.
